Dear Friends and Supporters,
I would like to start by saying thank you to every single person that has supported my campaign along the way. So many of you gave your time, talent and treasure for this campaign and I am forever grateful. Every dollar you gave, every phone call you made, every postcard you wrote, every door you knocked, every text you sent, every post you boosted, and every encouraging word you shared, was greatly appreciated. Although these aren’t the results we were hoping for, I know that we made our voices heard and we pushed Cabarrus County forward.
We fought a good fight! We kept it honest… We kept it transparent… We kept it about the issues… And above everything else, We kept it about the people! Thank you for choosing me to be your candidate to represent you and your values in the race for Senate District 34.
I want to say most importantly, that although we are not the victors in this election, we won in so many other ways! With this campaign we built community across generations, cultures, religion, race, age and gender - establishing a new path for Cabarrus County politics. At the end of the day, our values, what we believe and know to be true, remain intact. Politics does not end at the voting booth. As long as we have the courage to speak, we must continue to do so.
Let’s continue to organize; continue to speak out and work to hold our elected officials accountable. From the highest office in the land down to our local offices here in our county, we must continue to push for the issues that are most important to us. We must continue to show up at public meetings. We must continue to vote in every election. And most of all, we must continue to empower every day working people, our neighbors, to run for office.
I stated throughout this campaign that we should put our neighbors in office and I meant it. It is indeed time to send your neighbor to Raleigh. Let’s not give up on this idea. If we show up and do the work we can contest and fill every office with candidates that reflect our values and know our communities best. We must continue to do the work to move North Carolina forward, together.
Let’s not forget that because we challenged the status quo in our county we made change possible at the state level. It is no small victory that the money they were forced to spend to defend their senate, house and county seats in Cabarrus County was money they could not use in the statewide elections, many we won as a result. NC has a new Democratic Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General, Superintendent of Schools and two new House Reps; which ends the supermajority the GOP held.
Our work ensures women’s reproductive rights are protected, public school dollars are protected, and many of the regressive politics and practices long used by the NC GOP can no longer work. This is why even without victory, I am forever grateful.
Again, I thank you for your support!
Kim
