Hello, this is Justin Lewter, husband of Dr. Kim Sexton-Lewter, candidate for NC Senate District 34.
I know normally you would be hearing from Kim, but today is Kim’s birthday. I decided to take over her email today so that she could take some time to get prepared for the event tonight and I could share a few thoughts about my wife.
When I met my wife over 30 years ago we were both teaching in Brooklyn, NY. As we became friends, I was in awe of her passion for teaching and her commitment to the community we served. She was beautiful and brilliant. Needless to say, we were married and on our way to North Carolina in just three years of our first encounter. Over the years we’ve been able to grow a beautiful family with children who are committed to community, public service and education just like us. Aside from our respective careers and family life, Kim has been able to dedicate her time volunteering, leading social organizations, and planning community events.
Over the last few months I’ve watched Kim manage a full time job while being a community leader, a wife and mother, and candidate. If that isn’t enough she has not missed a single appointment by my side as I battle cancer. There’s been days in a row that we’ve sat together at Duke and I’ve listened to her take calls with voters as she listens intently to what’s important to them and their families.
I could never be more proud than I am knowing that I’m married to someone who is willing to step up and make a difference when her community needs her. Today, Kim could be taking the day off to relax but instead she’s working hard because she knows what’s on the line this year. I know she wears many hats right now but there’s one missing and that’s the hat of a state senator.
To help celebrate Kim’s birthday, I’m asking that you consider making a donation to her campaign today. Will you chip in $22 to Kim’s campaign in celebration of her birthday?
If you would like to personally tell Kim happy birthday, we will be down at the Vibez Grill & Bar tonight, October 22nd from 7-9PM. You can RSVP here.
Thank you for letting me share a few thoughts with you today!
Best,
Justin Lewter
