Education

As a former public school teacher, I know how important it is for every child to get an honest, high-quality education. When we invest in our schools, we invest in not just our children’s future, but the future of our community. As your Senator, I will fight to:

Increase teacher pay
Expand Pre K and after school programs
Give every child access to the technology they need to succeed.
Invest in trade and job readiness programs

Affordable Housing

My husband and I worked hard every day to provide for our family – including keeping a roof over our heads. Whether a homeowner or renter, prices continue to rise for everything, leaving too many people struggling to keep up. I will fight for working families– families like my own– in Raleigh by advocating for:

Increased funds for affordable housing programs
Land trusts and community land banks
Expanding low income housing tax credits
Implementing inclusionary zoning policies

Healthcare

Much of my career was spent as a public health educator and advocate. A healthy community is a thriving community. It is critical that all of our neighbors have access to the healthcare they need to keep our communities healthy. That’s why, as your Senator, I would support:

Increased funding for mental health & substance abuse services
Protecting safe and legal Abortions and access to quality Reproductive Healthcare
Increased health education and prevention services
Investing in programs to lower drug costs

Economic Justice

I see families struggling to make ends meet every day. Every North Carolinian deserves the freedom and opportunity to thrive. I'll work to create high quality, well paying jobs, so that everyone that works hard and plays by the rules can achieve success. I'll fight for every day people and for the businesses that want to employ them. As Senator I will:

Invest in infrastructure projects to improve transportation; increase broadband internet access and utilities.
Increase opportunities for workforce development and job training.
Support services which promote community engagement and reintegration for individuals returning to the community after incarceration, rehabilitation, disability or health crisis.

Clean Air, Water and Renewable Energy

Every North Carolinian deserves clean air to breathe and clean water to drink. We must put people and their health first, not the interests of utility companies and corporate lobbyists. We should be working to lower energy costs for every-day people, not shill for utility companies. As your Senator, I will:

Promote Sustainable & Renewable Energy Sources
Reduce Air & Water Pollution
Incentivize industries to reduce waste and minimize environmental impact
