Hello Neighbor,
As we experience inclement weather across North Carolina, I hope that everyone is staying safe and dry. I know all too well how these inclement weather days may actually be a disruption for working parents, but it’s certainly the responsible choice to keep our children safe. For all weather updates, please visit the National Weather Service.
Believe it or not, this is a resource and funding issue. While simple rainfall in your community may be a nuisance, in more rural areas it disrupts roads and damages infrastructure, preventing students from attending. Every child has a right to an education and deserves the accommodations necessary to see that they receive it.
Our public schools are the backbone of our society. As a former public school teacher, I’ve witnessed first-hand what the lack of funding and support can do to our schools and that’s why I want to head to Raleigh and change that. Let’s ensure the resources for all students no matter their circumstances.
This is why I’m honored to have the endorsement of Public School Strong Voters.
Public School Strong is an initiative that draws attention back to what's important in the conversation about education and that is making sure that children have access to an honest, accurate, safe and fully funded public education.
If elected, I hope to fight for a moratorium on taxpayer funded private school vouchers, increase teacher pay, invest in trade and job readiness programs and expand Pre K and after school programs. Our children are the future and it’s our job to make sure that we are setting them up for success.
Best,
Kim Sexton-Lewter
